Divided Government: Advancing Republican Priorities

Join BPC for the second in our series of conversations with leading conservative voices about Republican priorities in a divided government.

Widely respected and known for his member-to-member negotiations, former Sen. Majority Leader Trent Lott excelled at achieving his party’s legislative goals while working with Democratic members and a Democratic President. He is credited with modernizing the whip office, and is the only person to hold the whip position in both the House and Senate. The whip model Lott created is still in operation today. Throughout his career, Lott actively forged bipartisan coalitions—with Democrats on the Hill and in the White House—and guided the Senate through the impeachment trial of President Clinton in 1999 and the response to terrorist attacks in 2001.

Join us for a fireside chat with former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott. We’ll discuss how success (for either party) will require the White House to work with both chambers, the current state of Congress, areas where Republicans can achieve lasting policy impacts, and what he predicts for the rest of the 118th Congress.
